Achievements of the Social Economic Rehabilitation Unit

1. Vocational Skill Training : The unit is presently conducting Vocational Skill Training for Persons with Disabilities under the Govt. of India SIPDA scheme through empanelled training partners at East Champaran, Begusarai and Muzaffarpur districts. Total 200 PWDs will be provided skill training during 2015-16.

2. ADIP : The unit has organized total 38 camps and provided 3711 assistive aids to persons with disabilities; with an aim to improve their independent functioning, and to arrest the extent of disability and occurrence of secondary disability.

3. Support to the Bihar Government : SER unit has extended technical support to the Government of Bihar in establishment of SAKSHAM, Special School for Children with Mental Retardation and developing scheme for establishment of BUNIYAAD centre, State Disability Policy and SAMARTH scheme. Conducted assessment of Bihar Govt. Special Schools located at Patna, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Munger District for capacity development. Prepared tailor made program for PWDs on leadership development and psycho social assessment enrolled at APNA Ghar and NISHANT home and provided benefits to approximately 95 persons.

4. Extension and Out Reach Programs : The unit has supported community by extension and outreach programs including Disability Certification camps jointly with Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Bihar at State, Division and District level. Since February 2011, total 46 programmes were conducted and 13497 stakeholders were benefited.

5. District Disability Rehabilitation Centre : The unit has coordinated with 26 DDRCs established by the Govt. of India in Bihar State and successfully conducted 02 State Level Workshops for strengthening of DDRCs jointly with, Govt. of Bihar. Presently, a research project to study impact of DDRCs in empowerment of PWDs in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bangal is being conducted.

6. Human Resource Development : The unit has been conducting various short term training programs for PWDs on Vocational Training, Social Work, Placement guidance, capacity building and social marketing and through 6 programmes provided benefits to 409 stakeholders. Three State level workshops for Civil Surgeon cum CMOs & I/c Primary Health Centre has been conducted on Disability Assessment and Certification and enhanced percentage of disability certification from 34 to 52 in Bihar State. As founder Course Coordinator started two years regular D.Ed. Spl. Edu. (Visual Impairment) course in the year 2015 and taken approval from RCI for further 3 years in 2016.

7. Networking with NGO’s/ Government Agencies: The unit has built networking with 14 NGOs, 07 Govt. Special Schools and 9 other Govt. agencies at various parts of Bihar State.

8. Job Fair for PWDs: The unit organized Job fair for Persons with Disabilities on 4.10.13. So far provided employment to approximately 20 individuals including PWDs in DDRC, Spl. Schools, Vishal Megamart and Bajaj Allianz.

9. Justice to PWDs: Under Section 42 of PWD Act 1995, the unit lodged total 02 complains in the Court of Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India for justice to (Ms. Anjali Kumari for admission to IIT) and (Mr. Diwakar Kumar for Job in EPFO).

10. Special Day Celebration: The SER unit celebrated International Disability Day in 2011, 2013 & 2015 and first time CRC’s 4th Foundation day in 2012 and International White Cane Day in 2011.
